Australian cyclist Cadel Evans has tried to steal a march on his competitors by making a handful of reconnaissance runs on the famous Tour de France course in order to prepare for what would be, according to many, his last Grand Tour. As a result, his attempt at going through the paces at the famous tracks is being viewed as an attempt by the Australian top make it a memorable departure from the sport that has made him what he is today. Cadel Evans, and his team mate Steve Morabito from the BMC racing team have spent the last few days riding the final climb of the famous race, the eighth stage of the Tour de France, which is a 154 kilometer mountain stage that takes the riders into Switzerland, focusing specially on the extremely difficult Col de la Croix.
According to Evans, he has recovered well from the infection that he was suffering from which prevented him from participating at Ardennes Classic campaign, leading to his surrendering of the Tour of Romandie crown. Although many people view this as his last Tour de France, when asked about it, Evans avoided the topic and according to sources, he is not yet ready to give up cycling at the moment.
Speaking to journalists while he took a break from cycling, Cadel Evans said that he is feeling better now but added that he still needed to do a lot of work in order to get where he intends to be by the start of the race.
